As you plan your first visit to White Oaks United you may have some questions. Below you will find a list of answers to frequently asked questions.
What time should I arrive?
It would be great to arrive a few minutes before the start time of 10:25 am so you can have a look around.
Where should I park?
Onsite parking is available around the exterior of the church. There is also accessible parking available for those with accessibility concerns.
Is the building accessible?
The building is accessible. At this point there is no automatic entrance, however greeters are at the door on Sunday mornings and will gladly assist you in opening the doors. There are accessible washrooms and because we use chairs instead of pews wheelchair accommodation is easy.
Where do I take my children?
At the beginning of Sunday worship, adults and children are together. After the opening of worship, children age 3 and older proceed out to the church hall for children`s worship. Our Children’s Ministry ensures that every child is included. A well-equipped and professionally staffed nursery is available for children age 3 and younger at any point during the worship service. What should I wear?
At White Oaks United you will find people dressed in various ways. Some will have on blue jeans and t-shirts. Others may be wearing a coat and tie. At White Oaks United we are more concerned with friendship than fashion.
What can I expect in the worship service?
We consider White Oaks United to be a community church. We sing hymns that are inclusive of all, global music and some of the more contemporary praise and worship songs. You can also anticipate a sermon that is biblical, clear, and applicable to everyday life. In all of our services it is our desire to build our spirits as we build our lives in the way of Christ.
How long is the worship service and what happens afterward?
The service is generally about one hour long. After worship children and adults, who wish, are welcome to gather for a time of informal refreshments and conversation. Some people stay for 5 minutes, most have left for other activities in their day within a half hour.
What are my options for financially supporting the church and its mission?
There are a variety of ways that you can help finance the work of White Oaks United Church. At worship you can make your contribution by cheque or cash. If you wish a tax receipt please use either the envelope found at your seat or contact the church office for personalized weekly envelopes. Alternatively, you can choose Pre-authorized Remittance (PAR).
Also, by contacting the church office you can offer a contribution outside of worship. If you feel so moved, a contribution can be made in memory of a loved one or in honour of a special event. Some people wish their support to continue after their death and make a bequest to White Oaks United Church as part of their will and legacy planning.
What is Pre-authorized Remittance (PAR)?
PAR, or Pre-Authorized Remittance, is a direct debit program that allows people to support their church through an automatic monthly withdrawal from their bank account. Please reach out to the office coordinator or a member of the Stewards team, for forms and further information.
Do you rent your facilities for events?
Our facilities are available for rent for a multitude of events (showers, birthday parties, meetings, etc). The hall has a functional kitchen that is also available to rent. For more information please reach out to the office coordinator.
How can I connect?
Throughout the year we offer a variety of gatherings. Feel free to join in when you are comfortable doing so. But first off, fill in a Connection Card on a Sunday morning and we will begin to connect with you by sending updates of special events and other happenings.
