Sunday School

“The acorn does not know that it will become a sapling. “An Oak tree is a daily reminder that great things often have small beginnings.”

Children’s Outdoor Sunday School

In the fall of 2022, we will be holding Sunday school outdoors with the teachers. September 11th, September 25th, October 9th and October 23rd. If the weather is unfavourable, the event will be cancelled.

The Children of our Sunday School

Our Sunday school sessions often begin in the sanctuary during the service. Our congregation’s children may be called to join Reverend Michelle at the front where they will be offered seating on the stairs. This is a special time for stories, prayer or dialog. This opportunity is important as it sees our congregation’s youngest people building relationships with our minister and greater congregation. We want our children to have a visible presence in our church and for them to feel treasured within our church family.

You will often see the Sunday School Teachers join the children at the front during this time. If your little one is hesitant to come up to the front please feel free to come up and sit with them.

Once this short time is finished, our Sunday School Teachers will take the children into the Sunday School room down the hall.

Our children are usually 3yrs and older.  Children who are younger may have trouble separating from their loved ones and developmentally are often not old enough to be comfortable sitting for long. For those children, a well-equipped and professionally staffed nursery is available. As the Sunday School and Nursery share the same room, those younger children who are interested in par-taking in the lesson with Sunday School are welcome to do so, and then continue to head over to the nursery space to expel some of their energy.

Some children are eager to attend and some are hesitant to join us. Again know that you are welcome to join us if this eases the transition for your little one. We are currently using a mixed age grouping format. We find the older children love to help out the younger children. The younger children enjoy this special attention from the older children.

Our time is spent telling a bible story then paralleling this story in modern times for the children to better understand the lesson. This is usually followed by a craft, drama and/or games. We are with the children for about 30 minutes.

We have a small, dedicated group of Sunday school teachers. We always work in groups of two and we all have a criminal reference check with a vulnerable persons screening. We ask the children to stay in the room church ends and for you to come and connect quickly with the Sunday school teacher. This can be a busy time and we want to ensure we are dismissing children into your care. We don’t often offer food and when we do we will make an announcement, it is important however for us to know if your child has any food restrictions or other special needs in order for us to support them fully.

We look forward to spending time with your child on their journey in Christian Education and getting to know your family!
