God moved into the neighbourhood….
And we are too!
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE AT CHRISTMAS
In our journey to Bethlehem this year, let’s physically step into that journey by helping some families in practical ways. Just as Mary and Joseph, as new parents, likely needed help, so do the parents of London Community Chaplaincy. The best way we can help, is by providing items that are really needed. So, again this year, rather than a single White Gift service, we will bring tangible gifts each week:
Advent 1 – December 2
Gifts for the Manger -Bus tickets
Mary and Joseph journeyed on a donkey. Not practical in London… for people to journey almost anywhere – to work, to doctor appointments, moms to prenatal appointments…they ride the bus. We can help by providing bus tickets for youth and adults [not needed for children or seniors].
Advent 2 – December 9
Gifts for the Manger—diapers and children’s underwear and socks
Jesus was wrapped in swaddling clothes. Diapers, baby wipes and underwear for children are expensive. Parents can get used jackets and other clothing from various sources, but not decent underwear and socks. We can help by providing diapers [size 3, 4 & 5] and underwear and socks for children of all ages including grades 7 & 8.
Advent 3 – December 16
Gifts for the Manger—Meal in a bag and snack in a sac
Baby Jesus was laid in a manger – a feeding trough. Children go to school hungry and with no snacks. We can help by providing ingredients for a meal in a bag and nutritious snacks:
Pancake mix + syrup. Soup + crackers. Bread + canned spaghetti. Spaghetti + sauce. Juice box + applesauce+ granola bar. Boxes of cereal are also appreciated.
Remember… “no nuts!”
All gifts will be dedicated and delivered today.
